Story

STORY: Dairy and Cattle Farmers’ Association of Pakistan on Monday (July 8) rejected the implementation of taxes in fiscal budget 24-25 on animal feed calling it “cruel” and saying it will increase cost of production making dairy product out of reach of common man.
“Dairy and Cattle Farmers’ Association of Pakistan rejects the cruel imposition of taxes in the present budget.”chief organiser of Dairy and Cattle Farmers’ Association of Pakistan, Shehbaz Rasool, with provincial office bearer, told a news conference in Lahore.
He said the cost of production will be unbearable for them and the price for Pakistani people.
He said these taxes have made Pakistan a mountain for investors where investment was leaving instead of coming from other counters.
He said Pakistan was already suffering from a shortage of milk.
“We cannot sell milk, chicken and eggs on cheaper rates while producing it on higher costs. We think that these taxes are obstacle in the way of investments in Pakistan,”he said.
He demanded the government to withdraw the taxes or cost of milk and meat will surge to unbearable levels.
“We demand the government, the ministry of national food security and research and other concerned departments to withdraw the tax imposed on livestock feed, otherwise, I want to make you aware that this milk for our children will not be available less than 300 rupees (per litre), beef will not be available less than 2000 rupees (per kilogram) and price of mutton will surge to rupees 4000 (per kilogram). For sure, this is an alarming situation. Our country is sliding into food security situation. We will have to prevent it from sliding into it,”he said.
The 18% GST will allow milkmen to increase their prices by at least Rs30 per litre. Thus, the move will force consumers to pay an extra Rs250 billion to milk producers, both of packaged milk and loose milk sold by milkmen.
