STORY: Around one hundred Pakistanis on Saturday (January 13) took to the streets in the capital Islamabad to express solidarity with Palestinian people, demanding ceasefire in Gaza and boycott of the counties supporting Israel in its offensive.
Carrying banners, placards and Palestinian flags, men and women from major Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami and civil society participated in the rally.
Protester Afnan Durrani said people should raise their voices against Israeli genocide in Gaza.
“Palestinian brothers in Gaza, in the West bank as well, they are facing this genocide, this complete butchery. And why is that? That is because we are quiet. If we weren’t quiet that had not been happening. Now we are raising our voice right in D chowk, right in every city of Pakistan,”he said.
A woman protester Humaira Tayyeba demanded Pakistan government to demarche ambassadors of the countries supporting Israel and boycott of their products.
“We want that the government of Pakistan should demarche the ambassadors of U.K, U.S and all those countries who are supporting Israel by providing logistics. We demand that Pakistani government should boycott all Israeli products and there should be no buying or selling with those brands at the government level,”she said.
Israel says it targets militants of Hamas but the scale of the killing in Gaza and the dire humanitarian situation has shocked world opinion and there are growing calls for a ceasefire.
According to the Gaza health ministry 23,843 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed since Oct. 7.
