Story

STORY: Two police personnel from Eagle Squad were killed and another injured in an armed attack by unknown gunmen in southwestern Pakistani town of Kuchlak, some 25 kilometres off Quetta, the capital of troubled Balochistan province, officials said on Sunday (April 9).

Police said the incident took place at Quetta-Kandahar highway late evening when armed men attacked six personnel of Eagle squad who were patrolling in Kuchlak area to give protection to the mosques during special Ramadan evening prayers.

Police said that one alleged terrorist killed in return of police fire while another fled from the site.

Balochistan Home Minister, Mir Ziaullah Langove, while visiting the injured policeman at hospital in Quetta, called it a terrorist attack and said the culprits would be brought to justice.

“God willing, we will not spare terrorists wherever they are. In these scattered incidents of terrorism our martyrs have sacrificed their lives, I salute them. We are living a peaceful life because of them (security personnel). Their sacrifices will not go in vain. We will give these terrorists exemplary punishment."

Later, senior police and civil officials attended funeral prayers for the slain policemen at Police Lines in Quetta.

No one immediately claimed responsibility, but Islamist militants and Baloch insurgents carry out such attacks in the province.
