STORY: Eight tourists from United Kingdom get ready to set off for the Rickshaw Adventure from Pakistani capital Islamabad to Khanjerab, a 4,693-meter (15,397 ft)-high mountain pass in the Karakoram Mountains.

The pass is in a strategic position on the northern border of Pakistan (Gilgit–Baltistan's Hunza and Nagar Districts) and on the southwest border of China (Xinjiang).  

The purpose for this trip is to promote mountain sports and tourism of Pakistan.  

The team is led by Julian Rohann, who has vast experience of such travelling in other countries like Nepal, India and Thailand.

While talking to media the leader shared his plan which is comprised for five days, but he explained that there was no time limit.

“It’s not a race. It has no time element. It’s a race into really explore the country on a slow pace,”he told reporters in Islamabad.

He said the team, after the venture shall release Vlogs, stories and pictures of the mountain tourism of Pakistan specially focusing Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.  

They will depart on June 18th morning and will stay at Balakot. Next, they will satay Batakundi. On third day, they would cross the Babusar Top and reach Chilas where they will stay for the night. Their next stop would be Gilgit and then Hunza and finally reach Khujerab Top.  

The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan and Special Communication Organization would hold reception of the team.

Shahid Islam, Deputy Director General, Pakistan Sports Board was the Chief Guest at this occasion. He appreciated the efforts of the Alpine Club of Pakistan and other key stakeholders for promotion of mountain sports and tourism.

Abu Zafar Sadiq, President Alpine Club of Pakistan also highlighted the importance of mountain sports and tourism.

“I hope that your this adventure will not only be able to satiate your thirst for adventure of mountains but also it will explore the potential of sports tourism in northern Pakistan which by passing through the KKH and the top of the Khujerab Pass. I hope that you will be exploring the food and culture and on your way different mountain attractions and mountain sports,”he said.

The tour is organized by Large Minority who have been organising the rickshaw adventure in various countries since 2009.
