STORY: Pakistan maritime, navy and customs authorities seized 207 kilograms of crystal ice and 227 kilograms of heroin, valued at approximately $101 million, at south of Gwadar in the Arabian Sea, officials said on Monday (January 11).
The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency's (PMSA) Commander Mohammad Salman, while addressing a news conference in Karachi, said the drugs were seized in a joint operation in the south of Gwadar in the Arabian Sea.
He said it was the biggest haul of drugs in PMSA’s history in terms of value.
“During the operation, approximately 207 kgs of crystal ice, 227 kgs of heroin were recovered from a fishing boat allegedly registered as Al Hamd, registration number of boat is 15668 BFD means Baluchistan Fishery Department. The value of narcotics in international market is estimated to be 16.3 billion Pak rupees in the international market. This is the biggest catch in terms of value of narco in PMSA’s history,”Salman told reporters.
He said the narcotics were being smuggled but did not elaborate about destination.
He said the seized narcotics were being handed over to Pakistan Customs Intelligence for further investigation and legal proceedings.
In November, Pakistan maritime and anti-narcotics authorities seized over one tonne of hashish, valued at approximately 3.5 million U.S dollars, at open sea in the country's territorial waters.
