  7. “ Islamophobia exists across the world today. How are Muslim countries going to unite and combat Islamophobia? Imran Khan highlighted this on the sidelines of the UN. Secondly , our concern is the peace initiative in Afghanistan. The world spent considerable amount of resources, trillions of dollars, on this issue trying to find a  military solution for this.  Imran Khan always stressed that peace in Afghanistan can only be achieved through political solution. Finally the world has also realized this. Today the whole world is giving preference to a political solution over a military solution, and they have accepted our point of view. Today the world is also accepting the facilitating role that Pakistan played for bringing about a peace agreement between the Taliban and the US. Around three four days back when I talked to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on phone, he also acknowledged that Pakistan’s role in Afghan peace process had been vital.”

  9. (SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) MINISTER FOR PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT, ASAD UMAR, SAYING:
  10. “After struggling for 22 years – and let me repeat that there is no other example of such a struggle in this country ---  Imran Khan became Prime Minister after starting from grass roots level and, as Dr. Hafeez Shaikh just said,  he faced Pakistan’s biggest economic crisis, then he accepted India’s challenge that erupted after the incident at Balakot. However, with the combination of dignity, courage, and grace, he has successfully faced the worst economic situation, as well as the COVID-19 crisis. So, I have bad news for our friends in the Opposition:  the Captain has settled down in the crease , and is now ready to play a long and productive innings. God willing, Pakistan is going to see much better days now.”

STORY:  Several ministers belonging to Imran Khan ruling PTI government on Tuesday (August 18) addressed a joint news conference in Islamabad to spell out their government’s achievements  during the last two years.

Among the ministers were Information Minister Shibli Faraz, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar, Minister for Industries Hammad Azhar, Adviser to the PM on Finance Dr. Hafeez Shaikh and Special Assistant to the PM on Poverty Alleviation Dr. Sania Nishtar.

Highlighting the PTI’s achievements in both international and external matters, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan’s foreign policy had allowed the Kashmir dispute to become prominent on the global stage.

He also said India had wanted to isolate Pakistan but had failed to do so and had increasingly become isolated through its own actions.

Around three four days back when I talked to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on phone, he also acknowledged that Pakistan’s role in Afghan peace process had been vital,” Qureshi said.

Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Asad Umar, said Imran Khan had bravely faced a grave economic crisis inherited from previous regimes, and had now settled down to “play a long and productive innings” for the betterment of the country.

However, with the combination of dignity, courage, and grace, he has successfully faced the worst economic situation, as well as the COVID-19 crisis,” Umar said, adding:

“So, I have bad news for our friends in the Opposition:  the Captain has settled down in the crease , and is now ready to play a long and productive innings. God willing, Pakistan is going to see much better days now.”

Most ministers spoke about the government’s timely decisions and actions which had minimized the impact of COVID-19 not only on the health of Pakistan’s population, but also on the economy, as compared to other countries in the region.

Adviser to the P.M. on Finance Abdul Hafeez Shaikh also launched his progress report by blaming the previous governments for the country’s persistent economic crisis. He said the PTI had managed to reduce the current account deficit from $20 billion $3 billion and returned loans valued at Rs. 5,000 billion.
