STORY: Funeral held on Friday (May 29) for a couple, whose three children were also killed in PIA plane crash of May 22 in Karachi.

PIA flight PK 8303, flying from the eastern city of Lahore crashed about a kilometer short of the airport runway, killing 97 of the 99 people on board. There were two survivors from onboard the aircraft.

No fatalities were reported on the ground in the densely populated neighbourhood called Model Colony near Jinnah International Airport where the plane crashed.

The bodies identified as Zain Polani and his wife, were handed over to heirs while the bodies of three children still awaited identification.

Family members and relatives attended funeral prayers which were offered at the Alamgir mosque in Bahadurabad neighbourhood in Karachi.

“It is sad that DNA tests have not been done and the bodies of the children have not been handed over to the family yet. Five of the family were martyred, and two bodies were handed over whose funerals held today,”said Mohammad Hussain Mehnati, a relative of Polani family and senior leader of Jamaat-e-Islami party.

“Those killed or martyred were martyred but the families who are left behind are wandering here and there to get the bodies of their loved ones. I strongly condemn it. I offer my condolences to Polani family whose five members lost their lives,”said Ayaz Memon Motiwala, another relative of Polani family.

Zain Polani was flying back to Karachi from Lahore on Friday with his wife and three sons to celebrate Muslim festival of Eid al Fitr together.

The banker had come to Lahore from Karachi on Thursday to take home his wife and three children, who had arrived in Lahore from London.
