STORY: Members of Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation in second biggest city of Pakistan, Lahore protested against the visa restrictions between Pakistan and India on Sunday (January 6, 2019) and urged the Pak government to end any kind of restrictions so that people from across the border could come here.

The protestors demanded the Pak-India governments to allow visitors without acquiring any visa. They also chanted slogans against the restrictions and lit the candles in front of the memorial foundation.

Due to extreme tensions between Pakistan and India, the authorities have toughened the rules to acquire visit visas and travel to the other country without any necessity. Protestors said that the rulers have imposed visa restrictions only for their personal interests. The people on both sides of the border should be allowed to meet each other .

"I am much thankful that I have been provided the chance to present my recommendations. My name is Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, and I am the chairman of Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, the organization that has arranged this program today.
We have lit the candles for ease in the visa policies between both countries and to celebrate 2019 as the year of peace. We hope that God willing, the credit for these efforts will go to Prime Minister Imran Khan who is doing much for peace.

We appreciate efforts of Pak Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and his policies. We want that if someone comes to Pakistan from India, he could chant Long Live India and if someone visits India from Pakistan, he could do the same. It will happen," said Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, Chairman Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation.

Another senior member of the foundation, Pandit Bhagat Lal Khokhar said that the leaders from both countries should sit on a table and hold peace talks.

"Today's protest , organized by Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, reminds us that tensions between India and Pakistan should end. Hatred should end. Both countries should sit and hold table talk in order to discuss peace efforts and prove their brotherhood. The purpose behind this whole ceremony was to create awareness among the masses and the leaders of both countries. This visa system should end now," he said.

India and Pakistan both modified their visa policies in 2014, restricting the visitors on both sides from travelling without any particular purpose. Pakistan currently issues visas on arrival to visitors from as many as 11 foreign nations, and India is not among them.

Bhagat Singh was an Indian socialist and a revolutionary. He is considered to be one of the most influential revolutionaries of the Indian Independence Movement.
