STORY: Pakistani actor, singer and TV show host Fakhr-e-Alam, who is on a mission to fly around the world in 28 days, arrived in Karachi on Tuesday (October 16).

Alam took off from Clear Water in Florida, USA, on October 10 and is trying to complete the 26,000 nautical mile journey in 28 days.  He will be flying a single engine aircraft.

Forty two year old Alam, who has named his flight Mission Parwaaz , hopes to set a world record by becoming the first Pakistani to fly solo around the world.

On his arrival in Karachi, the singer was greeted by Sindh Governor Imran Ismail who welcomed him and lauded the singer's efforts to bring laurels for Pakistan.

As part of Mission Parwaaz, he will be landing at almost 31 airports around the globe for refueling and aircraft maintenance. Alam will stop at the Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore airports as well. He will end his journey at the same airport from where he started it.

The 28-day tour which kicked off in Florida, USA will take Alam to 32 countries. He has already flown to the Canadian Airbase in Goose bay Canada and then to Greenland, Iceland, United Kingdom, Egypt, Bahrain and Dubai.

From Dubai, Alam flew Karachi from where he will next visit Islamabad and Lahore. From Lahore, he will be on his way to Dhaka, Bangkok, Singapore, Jakarta and then Darwin in Australia. Other countries where he will be making a pit stop include Philippines, Taiwan, South Japan, North Japan, the Pacific Bay, Russia, Alaska and then back to the US.

Two hundred people have attempted similar flights around the globe so far.

A successful aeronautical circumnavigation of the globe requires covering a minimum distance of 26,000 nautical miles and flying through all medians. Only one plane can be used — the pilot cannot change the plane at any point of the journey, and the pilot must start and end the journey from the same airport.

In 2014, a Pakistani American father and son duo of Babar Suleman and Haris Suleman also attempted to fly around the world to raise money for building schools. They died in a plane crash on July 23, 2014 without completing their mission.
