STORY - Australia opening batsman David Warner On Thursday (March 10) hoped to get home soon after completing the test series in Pakistan to attend funeral of the legendary leg spinner Shane Warne.

Warne will be honoured with a state funeral at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on the evening of March 30, the Victorian state government said Wednesday.

Warne died at the age of 52 on the Thai holiday island of Koh Samui on Friday. His body is to be repatriated. An autopsy found he had died of natural causes following a reported heart attack.

The third and final test of the series in Lahore will finish on March 25 if it takes the full five days.

Warne's death occurred when the Australian squad was touring Pakistan.

“It is going to be extremely emotional for everyone. It really didn't sink in at all and still hasn't. There will be a big big, huge contingent of Victorians there. Obviously, being hosted at the embassy and there will be lots of lots of people coming out to pay their respects, all the flowers and even cigarettes and beer placed on the Warne’s statue at the embassy. It just shows how many people he is touched and how many people feeling it around the world. I'll be trying to get down there (for the memorial service),"Warner, while responding to a question, told reporters in a zoom meeting.

David Warner was speaking with media ahead of squad training in Karachi on Thursday. The second Test of the Qantas Tour of Pakistan is set to get underway on Saturday.

The Qantas Tour of Pakistan includes three Test matches, three One-Day Internationals and a Twenty20 International, with the first Test of the series, in Rawalpindi, finishing in a draw.
