Pakistan’s Aviation Minister says Pakistan International Airlines has started planning restart of EU operation after ICAO safety clearance .

Story

STORY: Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Pakistan’s Aviation Minister, on Thursday (January 06) said Pakistan International Airlines' (PIA) Europe operations, suspended in 2020 over safety concerns, are expected to restart in February or March this year.

Pakistani airlines had been banned by Europe's aviation regulator from its airspace following a scandal over dubious pilot licenses.

“PIA has started planning for European operations. Even under the worst conditions , PIA has contributed very well, increased its revenues as well as decreased its operational expenditures,” Khan told reporters in Islamabad.

The statement comes a day after Pakistan said the U.N.'s aviation body, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), had given the country's civil aviation regulator the all clear in terms of resolving significant safety concerns.
