STORY: Once part of the Turkish Forces in Afghanistan one of the allied force of NATO, more than a dozen Afghans staged a protest outside Turkish embassy in Kabul demanding their four months pending salary and evacuation from Afghanistan.

NATO member Turkey maintained its embassy in Afghanistan after Western countries withdrew following the Taliban takeover in August.

The protesters, employee of the Turkish Forces, held banners, placards and Turkish flag.

“We won’t stop our social movement till we get our rights”, read a banner.

“Why is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization observing Turkey’s carelessness toward us?!” read another banner.

”We demand our right from the Turkish Government,”said a placard.

Asadullah Rehmani, who worked with the Turkish forces in Afghanistan, said the Turkish embassy or the government did not pay their salaries for the last four months, and that they wanted evacuation to Turkey or any European country.

“We just want our rights from Turkish government. They have to evacuate us from Afghanistan to Turkey or other European countries which is our right. This is our right,”he said.

Rehmani said they contacted Turkish embassy several times but did not get a response from their side.

Turkey, with 600 soldiers, is ranked seventh among countries stationed as part of NATO’s forces.

Turkey had been running the military and logistic operations of the Kabul airport for six years as part of the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission.
