China-donated 0.8 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine reach Afghanistan.


STORY: Chinese aid of 0.8 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine Sinopharm reached Kabul and handed over to Afghan Ministry of Public Health on Wednesday (December 8).

Afghan Health Ministry official Abdul Baqi Omar received the Aid from Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu.

He thanked the Chinese government for their support.

“We highly appreciate their cooperation and their aid. Today, they delivered eight hundred thousand coronavirus vaccine by the name of Sinopharm. Its very important for the people of Afghanistan. We appreciate the aid and support of the Chinese government that they support our people, that they support our public in this critical situation,”Omar said.

He said that 0.2 million more doses will reach Afghanistan hopefully tomorrow.  

Talking on the occasion China Ambassador Wang Yu said that the China and Afghanistan relation are very important.

He said that despite challenges China provided assistance and help to the Afghan people adding that some other medical supplies would also be given to them soon.

In September, China promised to donate an initial 3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Afghanistan, with more emergency supplies to follow.

China has decided to urgently provide food, materials for winter, COVID-19 vaccines, and medicines worth 200 million yuan to Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is struggling with a drastic drop in international development aid after the Taliban seized power in August, an economy and banking system on the verge of collapse, the COVID-19 pandemic and drought.
