STORY:  Ustad Karim Khalili, Leader of Hezb-e-Wahadat-e Islami, Afghanistan, who is on a visit to Pakistan along with a delegation, on Wednesday (January 13) said the entire world was keenly watching the ongoing second round of Afghan Peace talks taking place in Doha.

“Now the second round of talks has begun in Doha. The negotiation parties are aware of the difficulties of their work, but at the same time they know that they are working to create a historic event , and the outcome of their work is being eagerly awaited not only in Afghanistan but throughout the world,” he said during a Public Talk in Islamabad.
Khalili said the peace discourse has become a serious issue because peace in Afghanistan is complex, multi-dimensional, with internal and international consequences. Therefore, the people of Afghanistan need cooperation and joint efforts from  all countries, especially the region.
He said he was in Islamabad because he believed that Pakistan government’s support was vital for a peace that can address regional issues and benefit all our international friends.
He appreciated the positive and constructive viewpoint of the Pakistani leadership and noted the visible support given  during his visit.
“ I appreciate the positive and constructive viewpoint of the leadership and officials of the Islamic Republic of  Pakistan. They are staunch supporters of peace in Afghanistan. And in our meetings we have seen that they see peace in Afghanistan as meaning peace en mass,” he said.

During the visit on January 11-13, Khalili called on the Prime Minister Imran Khan, and  Anrmy Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. He also held talks with  Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and other dignitaries.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office, Khalili’s visit is part of “Pakistan’s ongoing policy to reach out to political leadership in Afghanistan to forge common understanding on the Afghan peace process and deepen people-to-people linkages.”
