STORY: Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday (July 31) announced that the country will observe ‘Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir’ (Day of Exploitation in occupied Kashmir) on August 5 to mark one year of Indian government’s move of scrapping special status of the disputed valley.

Last year on August 5, when India revoked the semi-autonomous status of the region, it also scrapped the local special citizenship law, guaranteed under Article 35 (A) of the Indian constitution.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, flanked with minister for information and broadcasting senator Shibli Faraz and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Security Dr. Moeed Yousuf, the foreign minister said that shining India has been turned into burning India.

He said that last year, Modi government launched demographic apartheid illegally in Indian held Jammu and Kashmir and divided the region into three parts.

Qureshi sai that entire Pakistani nation stands by with their Kashmiri brethren in their just struggle for right to self-determination.

Qureshi said that Prime Minister Imran Khan will address the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on August 5 to highlight efforts of Kashmiri people for freedom movement, rallies will be taken out and one minute silence will be observed to mark the day.

“On August 5, the whole nation and the Kashmiris worldwide, will observe the ‘day of exploitation’. It will mark a year on August 5. We will highlight ‘exploitation’ (of Indian government) on this day and reiterate our vow with Kashmiri people. Moreover, we have decided that our destination will be Srinagar. We have our eyes fixed on Srinagar. On August 5, we will name Kashmir Highway as Srinagar Highway, God willing,”he told reporters.

Qureshi said that Kashmiri people were facing immense difficulties, pain and persecution under the continued military siege for the last one year.

“Today, as foreign minister of Pakistan, I want to deliver this message to Kashmiri people that you, who have all the rights to this movement, should lead and we are ready to follow. You, the Kashmiri face should be on the front and we are ready to follow. Until you are in prison, until you are disallowed to speak, until there is communication black out, I promise you that we will be raising our voice for you. We will not let you down,”he said.

Qureshi said coronavirus lockdown has realized the world about difficulties being faced by the Kashmiri people who were under siege even before virus outbreak.

Pakistan’s political leadership is united on the Kashmir issue and Indian attempts to jeopardize this unanimity have been foiled, he said.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz appealed to the masses to observe Yaum-e-Istehsal (day of exploitation) on August 5 in a befitting manner so that India could realize that its illegal action in the Indian Kashmir could not be tolerated anymore.

He asked the media to highlight all aspects of the Kashmir dispute, including the ongoing gross human rights violations by Indian occupation forces

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Mirwaiz Umar Farooq-led Hurriyat forum in a statement issued in Srinagar felicitating the Muslims on the occasion of Eid urged the Kashmiri people to observe the upcoming 5th August as Black Day. It deplored that on 5th August, last year, the Indian government in violation of international law and UN resolutions scrapped Kashmir’s special status and placed it under military siege.
