STORY: Pakistan on Wednesday (February 5) marked Kashmir Day with rallies, seminars and prime minister Imran Khan’s address to the parliament of Azad (Pakistani) Kashmir.

Kashmir Solidarity Day is observed every year on February 5 by Pakistanis and Kashmiris across the world with the pledge to continue support for the Kashmiri people’s struggle against Indian occupation of the state since October 27, 1947.

Addressing a special session of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly, prime minister Imran Khan said Indian prime minister Narendra Modi’s annexation of occupied Kashmir would eventually lead to its independence.

“I have no doubt about that, what step Narendra Modi took six months ago on August 5 in Kashmir, I think and I have faith that Kashmir will be heading towards the direction of gaining independence,”he told parliamentarians.

Khan warned India's situation will continue to deteriorate with time as protests continued over citizenship law.

“Modi can not draw back where he has taken India. If he retreats, the Jinn of nationalism that has come out of bottle will not go back. He can not draw back. And if he moves forward, he will have to face a big resistance. Not only Muslims but intellectuals, Sikh, Christians, all of them know that this nationalism of Hinduvta will affect all minorities including Dalits and lower cast who will be in trouble. Hence, this is the time, God willing, when Kashmir will go to independence,”he said.

Rallies were held across Pakistan including biggest cities of Karachi, Lahore and the capital Islamabad as the nation reiterated diplomatic, moral and political support to the people of Kashmir in their struggle for the right to self-determination.

The Himalayan region of Kashmir is claimed by India and Pakistan in full but they rule it in part.
