STORY: Pakistan won the two-match Test series 1-0 against Sri Lanka after winning the second Test at Karachi's National Stadium by 263 runs on Monday (December 23).

The first Test match of the two-match series was drawn in Rawalpindi.

The series was Pakistan's first Test matches on home soil since the 2009 militant attack on Sri Lanka's team bus in Lahore.

Pakistan secured the series win needing only 16 deliveries to claim the last three wickets en route to a victory in the final Test.

At the post match news conference, Pakistani captain, Azhar Ali appreciated players’ performance and said it was a happy moment for the players individually and collectively.

“I think it is a very happy moment that Pakistan has won the series. This series was very important to us, for all our players that it was taking place after a long time. All players are happy to win the series. All of them have performed very well and they are delighted individually as well as collectively. I think the most important thing was that every player stepped up the play wherever it was needed,”he told reporters.

Teenager Naseem Shah, who became the youngest pace bowler to take five wickets in an innings of a Test match, claimed two of the last three wickets as Sri Lanka, chasing 476 for victory, folded for 212.

Pakistani skipper Azhar Ali and Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne appreciated Naseem's bowling performance.

“Of course, Naseem Shah, who delivered all very successful spells in Australia and the whole world was appreciating him saying that he has the potential, base and that he knows how to bowl. The way he took five wickets today will be a big breakthrough for him. He is immensely talented bowler,”said Azhar Ali.

“Talking about Naseem Shah, he was really mature. I think he is still 16 but looks more mature because his line and length, space, you know, he was really accurate. So that is why we couldn’t get many runs. You know, he never gave us loose balls. You know, with someone on his sixteen, we were never expecting he bowls like that.” Karunaratne said.

He said he was satisfied with safety and security measures in Pakistan and that all other cricketing nations should also consider playing in the country.

“For me I can say, for now it is really safe here. All the other countries, all the nations who are playing cricket, they can come and play cricket, Test, T20 or the One Day, whatever the games, it is safe to play in Pakistan,”he said.

With the win, Pakistan has climbed to number three on the ICC World Test Championship points table.
