Hundreds of people gathered at Port Grand, an amusement complex in Pakistan's biggest city Karachi,
on Tuesday (January 1) to say goodbye to 2018 and welcome the New Year.

Grand New Year Eve night was the first of its kind in years that saw many spectators attend firework
displays as the authorities had imposed a ban on rushing to the sea view and its surroundings in order to
avoid any untoward incident.

However, this year came with a sigh of relief for the people as they were allowed to celebrate the New
Year night without any hassle, like the rest of the world.
People attending the event seemed really happy and excited, with some showering their praise on the
incumbent government.

;Praise to God, last year went really well. May the coming year goes well too for all of us,an old lady
attending the event said while describing her feelings.
She added: We pray may God make this year a year of happiness for everyone.

Another youth, after witnessing the firework displays, said: We are really much enjoying right now. I am
here with my friends. It's really amusing. There's a lot of enjoyment tonight.;
We are entering the first night of 2019 with too much enjoyment, and we are having real fun tonight,
he added.

Another participant said that due to the improved law and order situation of the country, it became
possible to celebrate the event without any hassle. She said: "We have too many hopes, as the situation
has changed, and we all could see that.
She also gave credit of restoring peace in the country to premier Imran Khan.
We should support Imran Khan, and support his slogan to bring change in the country. We all should
make efforts for that, she added.

In the past years, people coming to Karachi from various cities of Pakistan to witness the fabulous night,
had been restricted to their homes by the authorities, citing security concerns. Organizing any kind of
shows at beach was totally prohibited and was termed as violation of law.
