STORY: Police in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Friday (October 19) busted a gang involved in inter-provincial robbery, recovering millions of rupees, jewelry and ammunition, a senior police official said.

Munir Ahmed Shaikh, Senior Superintendent of police, told a news conference that all the six members of the gang were involved in many incidents of robbery in Karachi as well as Quetta in Balochistan province.

He said the accused would get tip off from their accomplices in Quetta about wealthy people. After that they would leave for Quetta, carry out the robbery and return to Karachi on the same day.

Shaikh said the accused robbers carried out a major robbery in April this year in Quetta, looting 50 million rupees cash and jewelry valued around five, six million rupees.

"They have committed many house robberies at Gulshan (Iqbal) and Gulshan-e-Maymar areas. The biggest, for which we got clue, was a robbery of nearly 50.5 million rupees in Quetta city of Balochistan. You can watch the complain, the FIR (first information report) on the screen. They committed the robbery at the house of Ataullah Achakzai who is sitting next to me at the moment. A man named Naeem Pathan, travelled to Karachi and planned this robbery with the men we have arrested in Karachi. They robbed cash around 50 million and the jewelry valued around 5, 6 million rupees."

He said a team of ACLC (Anti-car lifting cell) while demonstrating their technical skills, arrested the culprits with robbed money, valuables and ammunition from Scheme 33 area in the eastern part of Karachi.

Shaikh named an accused Ghulam farid alias Akhtar as the gang leader of the robber gang. He said police recovered four guns and live rounds from the possession of the arrested men.

He said the interesting part of the robbery was that the accused took selfies with the robbed money which were recovered from their cell phones.

"This is a very interesting picture. You can see that they have taken selfies with looted money. They counted the money there (in Quetta). After this they returned to Karachi and divided the robbed money among themselves."

The pictures and the looted money and valuables were shown to journalists.

Meanwhile, he said ACLC has also arrested a member of a car lifting gang from the central district of Karachi. Shaikh said further investigation was underway.
